Less than a week! Weather and Travel plans

Happy Labor Day, everyone! I heard someone shooting firecrackers last night at 1 am. It was actually quite annoying, but I suppose we must forgive our neighbors on the holidays.

We’re less than a week from the big day! I’m sure everyone has already made their travel plans, but I wanted to ask, one more time, that if you have decided not to stay at the Country Inn and Suites in Stone Mountain, shoot me a quick note with the name of your hotel so that I can get you personalized directions to the park and the pavilion.

The weather for Saturday is looking fabulous!  A little warm with highs around 83, but partly cloudy with only a 10% chance of rain. For the Lasershow Spectacular that evening, the temperature will drop into the low 70s/high 60s, so bring a wrap. Continue to check your favorite forecasts in case something changes, but I feel like it has stayed constant for several days. We hope that many of your will join Matt and me for the Lasershow – we know we want to see fireworks on the day of our wedding!

Travel safely, everyone, and we’ll see you when you make it into town!

Directions, Details, and a Dozen Days to go!

Less than a dozen, really! It is hard to believe, but the big day is right around the corner. Matt and I are very excited about seeing everyone, and we do hope you are all just as ready. Since it is sometimes hard to find places at Stone Mountain Park, here are some straight-forward directions to get you to the Hilltop Pavilion:

Directions to Stone Mountain Park

Excellent written directions can be found at http://www.stonemountainpark.com/maps-directions/driving-directions.aspx. For most guests, travel on Highway 78 to exit 8, Stone Mountain Park Main Gate. Then follow the directions below to arrive at the Hilltop Pavilion.

Directions to the Hilltop Pavilion of Stone Mountain Park

To get to the Hilltop Pavilion, please use the East (Main) Gate off Highway 78. When you reach the gate, tell the attendant you are there for the Holton-Gard Wedding for complimentary entry. Inside the gate, turn left immediately onto Stonewall Jackson Drive. Follow this road, closely observing the 30 MPH speed limit, past the Golf Course and Campground. The Entrance to the Hilltop Pavilion is on the left about 1/4 of a mile past the Campground. There is ample parking at this outdoor venue.

As far as details, we’re almost there! Just a few loose ends to tie, and Matt and I will be seeing you soon for a fun party and lovely celebration of our love and commitment to one another.

We hope to start the ceremony right at 4:30, so guests are encouraged to arrive as early as 3:45 or 4:00. You can play an outdoor game, sign the guest book, and enjoy a cool glass of lemonade until the ceremony begins. Again, if you have questions, just let me know so I can answer them for you!

If you are staying at a hotel that is not the Country Inn and Suites, I would love to know where you are staying. Just shoot me an e-mail, please: saraholton@gmail.com

Gosh! I guess I will have to change that e-mail before too long! So many changes…

Safe travels!

5 weeks and 2 days…

We’ve gotten back almost all of the RSVPs! Thank you all for being quick to respond. We are thrilled to see how many of our invitees will be able to come. This is the time when it becomes really exciting!

Matt and I went by the Country Inn and Suites where the rooms are blocked, and the hotel is really nice and very accommodating. We highly recommend it. The facilities include an indoor pool and hot tub! If you are thinking of having lots of guests to your room, a 1-bedroom suite might be a good way to go. It has a sitting area separate from the sleeping area, so it feels nice and roomy. If you do plan to stay at the Country Inn and Suites, or in the Stone Mountain Park area, make your reservations now. That area of the city will fill up in a hurry because there is a major festival also happening that weekend.

In other news, Matt and I have put an offer on a house! The home is beautiful, but we’re in the high-stress situation of going back and forth with offers while trying to get the finishing touches put on the wedding – eek! Hopefully we’ll come to an amicable agreement soon. We are accepting all prayers and well-wishes to that effect.

You know what keeps me going?  Looking at the beautiful photos that Kelly Lane took for our engagement. I know – how cheesy! – but they really make me happy. I can barely wait to share that joy with you all. See you in just a little over a month!

Zooming right along!

Your replies are pouring in, and it is such a pleasure to see how many of you will be able to come to the wedding! For those who we’ll miss, stay posted! We hope to get the footage from the ceremony either streamed to the Internet, or posted just after the big event, so you can almost be a part of the the action.

Our photographer has finished uploading the many photos of our engagement session! If you’d like the see the full set, including the ability to purchase prints, see her SmugMug page. If you do want any prints, you can use the code KellyLane20 and get 20% off, but this code expires on July 4th, so hurry!

On to the stress we were facing not long ago – the house. The sale of our current home to the new owners fell through, so we no longer have to move before the wedding.  However, we started looking for a new home when they told us to move out, and now we think we might choose to purchase a house and move just after the wedding. (Matt hasn’t said it just yet, but I think some home improvement gift cards might be on his wedding wish list!)

It is hard to imagine, but only 2 and a half months until the wedding! I’m so excited!

Thanks, and Some Bummer News

I would like to say a genuine and heartfelt “Thank You!” to Ellen Herbert and the ladies who came to my kitchen shower on Saturday (June 11th)! I had a wonderful time.  Ellen, the hostess with the mostess, had out a delicious and beautiful spread of bride-friendly (aka. didn’t blow my diet) foods that everyone enjoyed. Plus, she had such a clever idea for the shower. No silly games, but everyone was asked to present their gift with a piece of poetry, prose, or song. It made for a fun and lively afternoon. I can’t wait to show off photos!

A second “Thank You!” goes out to Takara Upshaw who is an amazing and beautiful friend. She has taken such an invested interest in my wedding, and for that, I am ever grateful. She’s gotten me tons of very valuable information, including setting me up with a make-up artist! I couldn’t do it without you, Takara.

Then, a bummer. I have to preface this with a little history, so bear with me. Matt and I rent a house that we definitely love, and just a few days after we were engaged, a tree fell on it. The damage from the tree has been repaired, but it set into motion a series of events that caused the house to be offered for short-sale. Because we love the property, Matt and I put in an offer. We were also aware that other offers were on the table. Yesterday, we found out that another offer has been accepted, and we will have to move out of this well-loved home by August 15th. You know, the stress of planning the wedding just wasn’t enough this Summer – we needed something more to do, apparently!  <Sigh> When it rains, it pours.

At any rate, look for updates closer to August regarding a forwarding address and moving party, but for now don’t hesitate to send mail, including reply cards!, to the address you’ll see on the invitations.

All other preparations are going smoothly! I can’t wait to see so many friends at the wedding.
